Janet Arnold Competition

Janet Arnold Competition is a Nation Wide Competition which takes place every year, this is a module which myself and fellow students from the University of Glamorgan enter in to every year. The competition requires each individual to reconstruct and garment chosen from the series of Janet Arnold Books. The Dress which I chose to reconstruct is a dress from the 1930’s. The dress entitled in the book is a Silk Chiffon Dress 1931-32; this dress is kept at the ‘Museum of Fashion in Bath’. This project required me to visit the dress at the museum and study and analysis it closes to ensure to reconstructed affectively. The dress is made from silk chiffon with a georgette Sash, all panels are cut on the bias giving it a fitted shape, panel inserts in the skirt giving it the flared appearance. The details of the dress are the Cowl neckline, gathered shoulder seams, and frill panel on the centre front skirt.
